As sailing being one of my greatest passions, with my partner in the 420 class, I had the opportunity to compete in high level sailing all over the world for team Spain. As a team, we qualified during 2016 - 2019 for the biggest 420 class events:
-
Spanish Championship 2016 - 2017: 2nd ranked
-
Greece European Championship 2017: 3rd ranked
-
China ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship 2017: 10th ranked
-
Austarlia International World Championship 2018: 8th ranked
At the age of 18, I faced a crucial decision about my future studies. I was determined not to sacrifice my passions for four years just to pursue an education. With the help of my mom, we brainstormed my interests and concluded that sports were the path I wanted to follow. Being someone who learns best through active engagement, I needed a program that allowed me to "learn by doing." Through research and connections in the Netherlands, we discovered the International Sport Management and Business program, which instantly captivated me. My enthusiasm for the degree grew even stronger after attending an open day and experiencing the lessons first-hand.
What I find most appealing about this degree is its inclusion of three internships, a minor, and an extensive network of inspiring individuals. This curriculum empowers students to shape their own path towards their dreams and equips them with the skills to become professional sports leaders. In 2019, I applied to this program as my sole choice, hoping to secure a place because I firmly believed it was the right path for me.
Not long after, I had the honour to become one of the Student Ambassadors. "As a Student Ambassadors we are happy to talk to you if you have questions about enrolment and selection, student life in Amsterdam and everything else you need to know about what you can expect from studying at Sport Studies – track ISMB.”
As a marketing and communication enthusiast, my first internship was with Ripstar. Ripstar is an action sports travel organization based in Amsterdam. They organize high-end Snow, Surf and Wake Camps, instructor courses, exclusive custom trips and group trips. Their goal is to inspire Ripstar's guests and let everyone discover their potential. They achieve this by creating unique journeys, in which the team is happy to share their knowledge, expertise and passion about the sport with the guests. During the summer of 2021, I had the opportunity to be the team manager assistant and Spanish speaker in the surf camp of northern Spain. As a result of this internship, I acquired a comprehensive understanding of marketing, communications, and hospitality.
"If you love good stories and have some experience with film, photography or graphic design, this minor could be the one to choose", YES! Was my answer... Visual Storytelling can be defined as the art of telling a good visual story. As a creative person, I decided to step out of the sports world for a while and discover my creative side. In this minor I was able to develop the skills to communicate stories using visual and digital media such as video, graphic design, and photography. These are some of the courses I followed: Video Storytelling, Film Project, Photographic skills, Photographic story project, Brand Identity.
Roxy's motto, "Make waves move mountains," perfectly embodies their philosophy. The company focuses on empowering and motivating women through a range of sporty and feminine products in adrenaline sports. They aim to build a strong community of like-minded women who share the same interests and values. This quote is not only significant to Roxy but also resonates deeply with my personal life, highlighting the challenges and obstacles that can be overcome through board sports and female solidarity
As a water enthusiast, Roxy has been a long-standing inspiration for me, and I have always enjoyed wearing their clothing and sportswear. Without hesitation, I decided to move to California - Huntington Beach, to embark on a new adventure as a Merchandise and Development intern with Roxy. It has been an incredible journey so far! I have had the opportunity to work closely with new clothing lines, create trend-watching presentations, coordinate photo shoots, model for a Roxy footwear campaign, and connect with athletes, among many other exciting experiences.
There is no doubt that I am a board sports enthusiast and that I looked for brands that are as enthusiastic as I am. As a result, O'Neill was the ideal place to be!
O'Neill, the original California surf and lifestyle brand, was founded in 1952 by Jack O'Neill. The company's core values revolve around producing functional and innovative board-riding products. O'Neill's legacy includes groundbreaking inventions like the neoprene surf wetsuit and stitch-less board shorts. It was my privilege to serve as a Brand Marketing Intern for the brand as part of my graduation internship. My responsibilities included conducting market research, analyzing consumer trends, assisting in the creation of marketing campaigns and materials, managing social media accounts, monitoring brand performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent brand messaging. I gained valuable hands-on experience in marketing and contributed to the brand's growth and success during this internship.
